Keeppley Honor of Kings Sun Shangxiang Building Block/Toy Action Figure Review

Table of contents
In recent years, many Chinese building block brands have been expanding the boundaries of the plastic construction toy world, introducing a variety of innovative concepts and breakthrough designs. Some of these products can still be considered building toys, while others have evolved so much that it’s hard to categorize them as building blocks anymore.
Package
This fascinating building set, a collaboration with Honor of Kings featuring the Sun Shangxiang Doomsday Mecha, is best described as a model kit with a building block flavor. This is even indicated in the top right corner of the box.
It includes two interchangeable hands and a large weapon.
It’s true that no glue is needed, and the no-paint requirement can be achieved with stickers. As for no trimming, it means you can snap the parts off the sprue without needing to clean them up. While the product does use a minimized gate design, there are still some visible gate marks, so I have some reservations about that.
Instruction
Some of the stickers are quite small and require tweezers to apply.
The set includes 8 sprues and some building block parts used for joints and the internal framework.
The full-color instruction manual clearly indicates which parts are needed for each section.

This model faithfully captures the original appearance.
Let’s check out the articulation.
The shoulder armor doesn’t interfere with movement.
The chest and abdomen can rotate slightly, but the waist is immovable.
The knee joint has limited articulation.
The model’s individual parts are not very heavy, and the joint strength is more than sufficient to support them.
The weapon is hollow, so it’s not particularly heavy.
It can stand on its own even while holding the weapon.
In terms of assembly and play experience, this product differs from traditional action figures and building toys, making it a distinct toy category. Its design strikes a balance between the abstract nature of building blocks and the detailed accuracy of action figures, with a hint of a finished children’s toy.
It doesn’t suffer from the issues of pieces falling off or instability common in building toys. It’s simpler and more user-friendly than traditional plastic model kits. Coupled with its popular theme and relatively affordable price, it’s undoubtedly an attractive plastic model toy.
Dracos truly has unique insights! I completely agree with his perspective. If you were to use traditional building blocks to create this toy, it wouldn’t achieve the high level of detail that action figures provide.
I believe this toy perfectly combines the strengths of both building toys and action figures, making it a must-have for fans of Honor of Kings’ Sun Shangxiang. Highly recommended!
